Pratt & Whitney revisited

       2013: Nearly two years after first posting about Pratt & Whitney in North Haven we have returned again. A lot has changed here... The building is currently undergoing demolition so we set out with our cameras to catch some last shots of this historic factory. By this time next year the entire property including its grounds will be reduced to rubble to make way for a new industrial park.

2012:This 160 Acre site located in between U.S 5 and Quinnipiac River State Park was once home to Pratt & Whitney. Thousands of people a day would park in the now grass and tree covered lots to go to work. Closing fully just 10 years ago in 2002 nature has made major progress in taking over. The once lush green grass baseball fields now over grown... the basketball courts rusted... The parking lot is still scattered with old fork lifts as if people were coming back to work the next day. A shiny mint condition GMC fire engine still sits 10 years later in the Plants fire garage ready to go. Chemical and oil Garage opened ready for dumping down the long shoots within.

Foxon Quarry

Foxon Quarry in East Haven, Connecticut has been abandoned since 2011. Backlash from residents and law makers brought the quarry to a grinding halt. It looks as if over night the company picked up and left leaving some things including a few trucks behind.

We got into the site through a hole in the fence on the Foxon Blvd. side of the Quarry. Getting in was no trouble and once we were in it was a cool site to see... It did include a lot of walking. There are even a few ponds on the location where we saw some people swimming, though I would not recommend that... Just be aware this site is on private property and you could get in trouble for being there.

XPect Discounts

XPect Discounts in North Haven was once one of 7 stores in the Connecticut chain. What started off as a Discount Drug store in the late 1980's soon expanded into a full Grocery Store. In the early 2000's the store expanded into the former toy store next door; thus adding a full pet food, cereal and chemical department. During the addition Frozen Foods was also expanded... XPect had become a "one stop shop" and business was good. But like most places business slowed during the recession and the cost to operate in the State of Connecticut continued to increase. Though still making increases in sales, "MGI" (the parent company of XPect) decided to shut down that location taking over 67 jobs with it.

Our Experience: You are probably wondering how I got in there? Well I actually used to work there for almost 3 years... And let me tell you it sure was a great store to work for, and I actually enjoyed going to work everyday.

Status Update: Dicks Sporting Goods announced plans to remodel the building and open in summer 2015

2/20/15- MGI anounced that all XPect Stores will vacate Connecticut in 12 months
